The Wildtronics Mini Stereo PIP Microphone easily assembles into our Pro Mini or All Purpose Parabolic Kits. When mounted in the Parabolic Kits, this microphone provides an in-dish stereo effect with gain and a field of view of 40 degrees for the Pro Mini and 20 degress for the larger All Purpose Parabolic kit. If you ever wanted a stereo parabolic kit, this is what you have been waiting for. Small and lightweight, this combination gives a nice stereo presence that isn't too narrow, and helps block unwanted sounds from the rear. If you want improved, controllable, wide angle stereo and a strong mono parabolic response, review the innovative Wildtronics Pro Mono-Stereo Parabolic Microphones. The Stereo PIP microphone requires a recorder and or camera, that has a 3.5mm input with 2-5 volt PIP, or Plug-in Power. The Stereo PIP microphone is designed to directly fit into the hub of the Pro Mini Parabolic Kit or the Mic Tube of the All Purpose Kit. Just insert it all the way in to set the microphone at the usual focal point of the parabolic dish. Align the mic so that it is oriented vertically and tighten the thumbscrew. The Red washer near the mic indicates the Right channel. The Stereo PIP weighs 2.2oz. It has a good 12dBA noise floor, and built-in pro grade windscreens. You may also slip over the windscreen that comes with the kits for added wind protection. The mic has a machined aluminum core, completely shielding it from EMI/RFI interference, and has a gold plated, Neutrik 3.5mm stereo jack. A 6 foot, 3.5mm cable, with gold plated connectors, is included. The reason why we use a detachable cable is because cables are the number one reason for microphone failure. You may also want different length cables for different applications. You can inexpensively replace the cable anytime.
The microphone elements in this mic are designed to be used with 2-5 volt PIP voltage supplies which are found in most handheld recorders and cameras. Most smart phones only use 1-1.5 volt PIP supplies and will have a very reduced output. These elements are very high output, so almost any 3.5mm input recorder will produce a nice clean recording with little noise. The Max SPL rating for the microphones is 110dB. That is on the lower side for max SPL compared to many microphones, so it is not recommended for very loud sounds.
Made in the USA, RoHS lead free, with CE conformity.
Below are some audio samples recorded using the Mini Stereo PIP Microphone installed in a Pro Mini Parabolic Kit. The recorder used was a low cost Tascam DR-05 recorder mounted on the handle of the Pro Mini using a Mini Accessory Bar.
Below are some samples that compare the Pro Mini Parabolic Stereo to the larger Pro Mono-Stereo Parabolic Microphone. As you will see, the Pro Mono gives a much better isolated subject and adding in the Stereo Microphones of the Pro Mono-Stereo gives a wider stereo field of view than the Pro Mini Parabolic Stereo. The Pro Mini Stereo Microphones does a good job of picking up good, low noise recordings with a narrower stereo field of view, approximately 40 degrees in front of the parabolic reflector.
